Shakti Dome

This week we are focusing on stimulating our thyroids , thymus glands and ovaries. I have developed a sequence to stimulate the glands to help bring balance in our Hormones.  Our thyroids are key in bringing our moods,  metabolic system and energy in good
health. If our thyroids are off- balance then you might feel irritable, lack of sleep, hair- loss might happen. And even weight gain around your waist.

By practicing yoga postures to help stimulate the thyroids , the thymus gland for better immune system and you'll feel more energised and you'll get a healthy glow.

A wonderful story of spreading the benefits of Yoga at home and abroad... Teens inspiring Teens...

Anna Lucas-Clements Inspiring Teens to practice Yoga

My name is Anna Lucas-Clements and this summer I went to Rhode Island in America to teach sailing at Camp Fuller- an American summer camp for kids aged 7-16.
Whilst there I had the opportunity to show some of the kids the amazing healing, strengthening and cleansing power of yoga that Luma has taught me over the last couple of years whilst I have been attending her class at the medicine garden in Cobham with my mum during my school, and now university, holidays.
I am glad that I had the opportunity to introduce yoga to the children and I hope I have inspired them to continue practicing, just as Luma inspires me. I can't wait to keep learning more  about technique and hope that one day I might be able to teach yoga professionally.
I encourage all teens to take up yoga. It has really helped me with my fitness and general health and it is something that I really enjoy doing with my mum when ever I come home.

Presence through movement workshop with Kim Eng.... Fabulous Yin Yoga

Presence through movement workshop with Kim Eng.... Fabulous Yin Yoga

Hello Yogi's

I wanted to tell you about a wonderful workshop I attended given by the lovely Kim Eng.  The workshop was focused on Yin Yoga a slow, meditative style of yoga designed to focus the mind internally.  It is designed to help us be truly present in the moment and in our body by deepening the breath and stretching and relaxing the muscles.  It is a wonderful opportunity to go deeper into a meditative state noticing the micro changes in our physicality and breath as we slow down and fully immerse our mind and body in the present moment.  I recommend it to everyone!

Yoga twists are a great way to squeeze out and rinse the body clean of toxins such as lactic acid which build up in muscle tissue.  They provide powerful medicine to the body but need to be approached with care.  The following guidelines will help you get the most out of yoga twists providing great benefit without injury.

Place your pelvis in a neutral position to ensure your spine can lengthen during the twist

Twist evenly from the sacrum at the base of the spine upward

Inhale as you lift and lengthen the spine and twist only during exhalation

Move in a gentle, measured and even way no forcing, bouncing or straining

Keep your abdomen relaxed do not contract or grip with your abdominals
Release the twist slowly and gently no rapid movements or sudden release

Weekend Warrior... Fight for your time and the right to take care of yourself each and every day.  Studies have shown that 10 to 15 minutes of yoga every day provides more consistent and long term health benefits than longer more infrequent practice.

Take the next step and incorporate 10 to 15 minutes of yoga every Saturday and Sunday...and prepare to be amazed.

Yoga transforms you from Ordinary to Extraordinary

There is no doubt about it.... Yoga transforms your body and mind from ordinary to extraordinary.  No one can say exactly why but no matter how badly you feel or how horrendous a day you are having going to a yoga class or practicing in the quiet of your own home will transform the way you think and feel every time.

Is it magic? Is it biochemical? Is it simply the restoration of the mind / body connection?  We don't need to know why because we know that it works.  All we need to do is keep coming back to the mat as often as we can and we will see and feel the difference thanks to the positive power of yoga.  Like a true friend it doesn't matter how long you have been out of touch the moment you start you know you will feel better and better.

Are you heading out on holiday this Summer?  Whether you are soaking up the sun by a pool or hiking in the Alps or body boarding at the beach, yoga is wonderfully travel friendly.

You don't need a gym, track or pool... you don't even need a mat.  All you need is time to fit it in while you are on holiday and the benefits will help you make the most of your time away.  Remember it doesn't matter how short or long your practice is... you will always feel better for it...

And if you are stay-cationing here in Surrey remember to come to Yoga every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Medicine Garden in Cobham.

Make Hydration more Fun with Water Mocktails!

Image result for photo of grapefruit, lemon, lime
It can be challenging to stay hydrated in hot weather.  Drinking enough water can become a bit of a chore.

A great way to add some fun to your daily water intake is to make a water mocktail...Get a large pint glass fill it with ice, add water and then squeeze your favorite citrus fruits into the glass.

Grapefruit, lemon, orange or lime... add just one or all four and create a healthy and delicious alternative to increase your water intake.

Citrus fruits also restore the acid / alkaline balance throughout your digestive system.  So enjoy your water mocktails this weekend!
